Mablethorpe Sand Riders

Just when the peak of Motorsport calendars wind down for the Autumn and Winter seasons. This makes way for one of the most unique motorsport events in the UK. From October to March along a stretch of the Lincolnshire coast the quiet beachfront transforms into the hub of activity of roaring engines, riders and spectators all to be a part of Mablethorpe Sand Racing.

What began in the 1970’s amongst a group of friends in a pub has turned into over 80 regular riders and spectator numbers reaching over 3,000, it’s undeniable what makes this event so fascinating. Mablethorpe is the example of true freedom of racing, no licence required to enter, regardless of age, gender and riding experience, everyone is welcome.

I had the pleasure of being granted access to the pits and during my visits it is clear to see that this is more than just about the racing, it is about community. The camaraderie is what makes Mablethorpe Sand racing a way of life, being able to come together and channel their passion for racing, shown through the determination of braving the British winter weather everyone pushes themselves going full throttle and most importantly having fun.
